Johnny Majors, a legendary coach for the Tennessee soccer personnel and member of the College Soccer Hall of Repute, has died. He used to be eighty five.

Majors guided Pittsburgh to a national championship and undefeated season in 1976 ahead of becoming Tennessee’s coach. In sixteen seasons at Tennessee from 1977-92, Majors compiled a 116-sixty two-8 file.

Majors compiled a 185-137-10 file in 29 seasons as a head coach at Iowa Teach, Pittsburgh and Tennessee.

A native of Lynchburg, Tennessee, Majors started his playing occupation with the Vols in 1953, joining the personnel as a single-hover tailback. He used to be named the SEC Participant of the twelve months in 1955 and 1956.

Majors rushed for 549 yards and seven touchdowns and handed for 552 yards and five touchdowns in 1956, main Tennessee to a ten-1 season and an SEC championship. He completed as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, shedding out to Notre Dame’s Paul Hornung. 

He used to be elected into the College Soccer Hall of Repute as a participant in 1987.

Born in Lynchburg, Tennessee, Majors played in high faculty for his father, Shirley, at Huntland High in Franklin County, Tennessee. After going 1-9 in Majors’ freshman twelve months of high faculty, Huntland received 70 of its next seventy one games — most with Majors or one of his three brothers main the capability.
